Brave Train Employee Endures Life-Threatening Injuries Amid Multiple Knife Attack on High-Speed Train

A brave train employee who stepped in to save travelers during a mass knife incident on a express train has suffered life-threatening wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Event

Surveillance footage allegedly shows the employee attempting to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses recounted a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied victims running through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in custody for interrogation. Authorities announced a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Reaction and Consequences

The event on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several people have since been released from medical care.

A bystander recorded the suspect waving a big knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced officers on the platform. He was reportedly heard shouting, "Kill me, end my life."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the courageous member of rail staff whose family are being supported by specialist personnel,” said a high-ranking law enforcement officer.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Measures

Train associations were quick to commend staff and call for increased measures. One union official said he would be “requesting immediate meetings with government, train companies and police to guarantee that we have the best possible assistance, tools and effective procedures in place”.

Another union representative encouraged the rail company and government “to act quickly to review safety, to help the affected workers, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.

Operator Praised for Quick Action

The train driver who stopped the train at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been praised by association representatives for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He didn’t halt the train in the center of two stations where it’s clearly difficult for the first responders to access, but he continued traveling until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was almost already there,” stated a association official.

Additional Details

Authorities stated they got the first distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One observer recounted at first wondering if the event was a holiday prank, but soon understood from individuals' faces that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is nothing to indicate the incident was a terror-related attack and have asked the community to provide with any additional information.

Rail services on the impacted line are expected to experience disruption until Monday, with passengers advised to defer their travel where feasible.

Anyone with details that could help the inquiry are encouraged to contact police by sending a message a specific number with a reference code.
