Woman Arrested Following Alleged Gas Supply Tampering at Multiple Sydney Hospitals

A female individual is now in police custody after medical gas supplies were allegedly sabotaged at two metropolitan healthcare centers.

Event Overview

Sutherland Hospital in the city's southern suburbs lost medical gases on early Tuesday, requiring them to switch to portable oxygen and air as an emergency measure, according to medical authorities.

"The cause of the loss to gas systems appears to be deliberate sabotage," officials declared.

Officials stressed that "{To reportedly do this is beyond serious. It could have been catastrophic consequences."

Law Enforcement Response

NSW police confirmed receiving notifications of "suspected intentional damage at two hospitals in Caringbah." It's understood that the second location was a local private medical center.

Authorities claim a 42-year-old woman gained access of a medical facility on Kareena Road premises at approximately 12:20 AM on Tuesday and "severed utility lines, before activating fire hoses."

They further alleged that at about 1:30 AM, "the woman entered the grounds of another hospital on Kareena Road ... and reportedly deactivated the gas main."

She was arrested in Miranda at about 4 AM on Tuesday for violating bail conditions, police confirmed.

Hospital Response

Health officials confirmed that gas systems were restored by medical staff and regional health authorities "within approximately two hours."

"I want to assure the public there was no impact to patient care and that the facility has resumed normal operations as per normal," authorities stated.

They added that "Access to gas systems in NSW public hospitals is restricted. We will review the situation to see what improvements can be put in place."

Officials revealed that the woman allegedly scaled a wall at the medical facility and gained access to a restricted area.
